Uddhav analyzes his Afzal Khan remark

Aurangabad/AHMEDNAGAR: Shiv Sena's executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday sought to explain what he meant when he compared the election scene with that of Bijapur general Afzal Khan's army invading parts of the state over 350 years ago.

At a rally in Aurangabad, Uddhav said "On the one hand we had the corrupt Congress-NCP alliance which has earned huge money and is trying to lure voters and on the other, we have the BJP. All its cabinet ministers are in Maharashtra for campaigning. All this looks like Afzal Khan's army. I had not named any one."

Earlier, addressing a public meeting in Ahmednagar to campaign for Shiv Sena candidates, Uddhav asked the audience, "There is a controversy about what I said yesterday (Monday). You tell me whether I spoke the truth or a lie?" Hundreds of Sena supporters responded by saying,'You spoke the truth'."

"I had said that the trouble is like Afzal Khan's army coming to the state. I tossed a hat. What was the need for you to place your head under it?" he said, without naming the BJP. "I had simply thrown it (the hat) into the air and you ensured that you fit your head into it. What can I do?" said Uddhav.

At both the rallies, Uddhav accused the BJP of breaking the 25-year old alliance with the Sena. "We had helped the BJP form a government and at the Centre and had given the responsibility of the entire nation to Narendra Modi. And it was expected to be given Maharashtra to the Sena. They backstabbed us," he said in Aurangabad.

He also referred to the late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan. "Some years ago, he (Mahajan), while addressing a meeting in Aurangabad, had said his party will build the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Now, the BJP has forgotten about it," Uddhav said.

He urged the voters to teach the BJP a lesson since the party favoured a separate Vidarbha. "We will not let the state be divided into smaller parts," he said.
