But he raped her,” inspector Abhay Kurundkar told TOI.THANE: The police are hunting for a 26-year-old man who allegedly raped a 28-year-old woman in a Bhayander lodge, where he had called her for a meeting on Wednesday night on the pretext of getting her a job in the home guard.
The Navghar police have booked Vile Parle resident Gorigapa Waghmare for rape.
Around two months ago, the survivor told a friend that she was looking for a job, and the later gave her Waghmare's mobile number. The survivor got in touch with Waghmare and soon they started conversing on the phone and even shared text messages. The accused promised her a job in the home guard as he claimed he had contacts in the department, said the police.
"On Wednesday, around 9pm, Waghmare told the woman to come to Jaimala lodge in Bhayander with her bio-data to meet someone who would get her the job. But he raped her," inspector Abhay Kurundkar told TOI.
Around 10.30pm, Waghmare fled from the lodge. The survivor then called up her friend for help and the duo went to the Navghar police station and lodged a complaint. The woman was sent to the Thane civil hospital for a medical test; the reports are awaited. "We have set up a team to nab the accused. We have details of the accused as he had produced his Aadhaar card at the lodge while checking in," said Kurundkar.
