Don’t interfere in J&K issues: Minister to Army

Don’t interfere in J&K issues: Minister to ArmySRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir minister Sham Lal Shrama on Saturday asked the Army not to interfere in the matters of the state.

He was responding to the Army's statement that breach of Jehlum embankment at Kandzal would have saved Srinagar from the recent devastating floods.

Sharma said the Army's claims were not based on facts. "Everyone cannot be the hydraulic expert and the way the state administration performed in the midst of the floods was exemplary," the minister told a local news agency.

The Army had earlier said authorities did not open embankment despite a proposal to divert the river upstream. It said the Army had sent its engineers too but it was too late by then.

"The Army claims Kandizal breach was delayed which drowned the city but how this assessment could be based on facts. The Kandizal breach was carried out on September 4 and the flood waters entered into the city on September 7," Sharma said.
