The police sent the girl for medical examinations to ascertain the charges of sexual assaultPUDUCHERRY: Police arrested a 35-year-old man on Thursday on charges of sexually abusing his 14-year-old niece in Puducherry. Police said B Ganesan, 35, a carpenter, who allegedly developed a relationship with his brother's wife following his (brother's) death 12 years ago, sexually assaulted his niece when she was alone at home in Muthialpet. The victim narrated the incident to her mother, who with the help of a women's forum, lodged a complaint with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
CWC chairperson Vidyaa Ramkumar recorded the statements of the victim and her mother. She forwarded a detailed complaint to the Puducherry police following which the Muthialpet police booked Ganesan under Section 8 (punishment for sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Harassment Act (Pocso) and arrested him.
The police sent the girl for medical examinations at Rajiv Gandhi Government Women and Children Hospital on Thursday to ascertain the charges of sexual assault.
