The incident took place on Saturday evening when the boy was playing near his house in Barhapur area and the tiger attacked him, said J P Singh, SHO, Barhapur.
Hearing the screams, his father and other villagers attacked the tiger with sticks after which the animal left the boy and fled in the forest area, he said.
However, the boy died due to severe bleeding, Singh said. The boy was the sixth prey of the man-eater tiger in the past nine months, he added.
