| Nepal earthquake shakes India An earthquake measuring 7.3 on richter scale epicentred in Nepal shook several parts in North and East India including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. |
Shock wave in Delhi:
Some schools in Delhi and NCR were vacated after tremors were felt in the national capital on Tuesday.
Students were asked by teachers to evacuate classrooms and assemble in the playground. “Taking preventive measures we asked students to vacate the building and come out in the open,” teacher of a government school in Turkman Gate area said. However, after a break of 20-30 minutes, schools resumed operation.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed people to maintain calm.
“Please do not panic and maintain calm. Earthquake situation is being closely monitored and officials are already in the field,” Kejriwal tweeted.
Quake jolts Jharkhand:
Tremors were felt in several places in Jharkhand but no loss of life or property damage was reported.
Tremors were felt in Ranchi, Dumka, Giridih and in other places around 12.35 PM for a few seconds, an official said.
The epicentre of the earthquake was about 815 km North of Bhubaneswar.
Tremors felt in Odisha:
Tremors were felt in most parts of Odisha on Tuesday triggering panic among the people who rushed out of the buildings.
Apart from the state capital Bhubaneswar, tremors were felt in Cuttack, Balasore, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Khurda, Rourkela, Ganjam, Baripada, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Nabarangpur and several other places.
